Defending bad or worse positions is very important in the royal game, probably forming one of the most essential aspects of chess strategy altogether. And it is an art one can learn!

The purpose of this DVD is to explain the viewer all main methods of defence: exchanging pieces, creating a fortress, eliminating dangerous enemy pieces, escaping the danger zone with the king, improving the position of the pieces.
Special attention is paid to counterattack and prophylactic play. The DVD contains almost 5 hours of video lectures, based on the positions from the practice of the World Champions and other elite players.
On top of that, there are 15 exercise positions for you to solve by yourself.

Born 1973 in Krasnodar (Soviet Union), Sergei Tiviakov was a member of the Smyslov school and gained the titles of World Youth Champion at U16 and U18 levels. 1994 he represented Russia in the Chess Olympiad. Since 1997 Tiviakov has been living in Groningen (Netherlands). With his new home country he won the title in the European Teams Championships in both 2001 and 2005 and was victorious in the championship of the Netherlands in 2006 and 2007. Tiviakov celebrated his biggest success in 2008 when he won the European Individual Chess Championship.
